Funded PhD studentship - Developing Sustainable Water Resources Protection Policy
Developing Sustainable Water Resources Protection Policy
We are seeking a highly motivated student with the necessary drive and
ambition to make an important contribution to the development
of sustainable water resources protection for England and
Wales. The studentship covers tuition fees and also
provides a living allowance for three years.
The regulation of land use and management is a key element in the Environment Agency's approach to the protection of surface and groundwater resources. Nevertheless, the development of regulatory approaches such as Water Protection Zones is highly complex and involves many areas of uncertainty. The successful applicant will be trained in the fundamentals of land and water processes and management in order to critically examine the designation of Water Protection Zones, to examine how uncertainties are addressed in policy making and implementation processes, and to assess the potential impacts of WPZ designation on land users. The research student will be based in one of Europe’s leading environmental research centres and will also work closely with national experts in the Environment Agency.
Applicants should have a minimum of an upper second-class degree in geography, environmental science, economics or a closely related discipline. Experience of GIS and statistics is desirable although not essential.
