2418 Trackside Cave
Riaño 30T 0452098 4800242 Altitude 177m Length 86m Depth 18m

The cave is entered through a small, strongly draughting muddy hole in the bank of the track, dropping down into a chamber with some stal in the roof. An immediate climb up over boulders enters a crawl with sharp crystals and broken calcite on the floor, and following this enters a cross rift. Straight across at this junction is a window with two bolt placements in the passage on the left, one in the roof and the other in the wall high up. These give a "Y" hang from where you can pass through the window and on to a sloping floor with and bolt placement on the left hand wall. A sloping traverse out to the pitch head is now possible on sharp crystal walls.
At the pitch head a single bolt gives a reasonable hang. If this route becomes well used then a second bolt placement to the right of the pitch head bolt will give a quality free hang. The pitch swings around a corner to the left (when looking back at the traverse) and a re-belay is required. (A sling was placed around a flake of rock, 6 metres above the base of the pitch).
The bottom of the pot was found to be blind. On closer inspection there are two possible leads, both needing digging. The base of the pot is on an east / west heading. At the eastern end a small draught comes through a small, 5cm diameter hole in the soft mud floor; the western end is under an overhang with straws in the roof and also has a soft mud floor. A return visit when the air temperature is much higher may confirm the leads.
